Men's Basketball defeats Wilkes-Barre

The Men's Basketball team sealed the deal on Sunday after another clutch PSUAC win.  Mont Alto played their last regular season game of the season on their home court against Wilkes-Barre.  They won 73-65, winning their seventh consecutive conference game in a row.  Every win has been crucial this year in the PSUAC but this win secured their #2 seed for playoffs, giving them a bye for the first round and hosting the Final Four at home.

"This was a very physical and tough game, both teams tried to establish their defense with physical play," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "I thought our guys played with a lot of composure and class.  We got ourselves in a bit of a hole in the first half but the team responded and played tough.  This type of game will help us coming into playoffs."

Going into halftime, Mont Alto was down by nine points but came back in the second and outscored Wilkes-Barre by 17.  Mont Alto had five players in double figures.  Jerome Evans (Carlisle, PA) was impressive, earning the teams only double-double.  Evans scored 12 and rebounded 10.  Devonte Merritt (Chambersburg, PA) continues to play exceptional, leading the team with 15 points.  Corey Meyers (Greencastle, PA) scored 14 during his 25 minutes of play.  Sharif Welton (Sullivan County, PA) didn't miss a free throw, going 5-5 and scoring 13 for his team.  Jamaal Carter (Harrisburg, PA) led the team with five assists.  Bobby Ingram (Frederick, MD) was strong on offense and defense, adding 11 points and seven rebounds.

"I thought our starters did a good job and everyone who came off the bench played well," Coach Schenzel adds.  Having five guys scoring in double digits was the key to our offensive balance."

After a stellar regular season in the PSUAC, Mont Alto is seeded second overall.  They received a bye in the first round and will host Beaver on Saturday February 22nd for the PSUAC Final Four.

"We need to keep rolling when we face Beaver.  It will be a tough game, Beaver has a lot of experience in post season play and our team is learning on the job.  Our plan is to keep working hard to get better every day."
