Mont Alto’s Quintyn Flemister and JR Powe Finish Historic Season as USCAA All-Americans

MONT ALTO, Pa. - The Penn State Mont Alto men's basketball team's trip to the USCAA National Tournament last week was met with national praise as two Nittany Lions earned USCAA All-American honors. Junior guard Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg) was named to the Second Team and freshman forward JR Powe (Frederick, Md. / Thomas Johnson) earned Honorable Mention distinction as announced at the awards banquet on March 7. 

This marks the first time in each of their respective career's that Flemister and Powe got nods as All-American selections. Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg) started all 30 games this season for Mont Alto and averaged a career-best 13.3 points per game, while grabbing 5.7 boards and dishing out 3.7 assists. He had three double-digit rebounding outputs, including two of which occurred on the teams run to the PSUAC Championship. The junior is a defensive stalwart as well finishing his junior campaign ranked third in the USCAA in steals per game (2.9). 

JR Powe (Frederick, Md. / Thomas Johnson) ended a terrific freshman campaign as the team's leading scorer at 14.1 points per game. The Frederick, Md., native also grabbed a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game, which ranked ninth in the USCAA. He had nine double-doubles including a 20-point, 24 rebound outing in the 68-54 win over PSU Greater Allegheny on Nov. 19. 

Mont Alto had a fine season under ninth-year head coach Jack Schenzel with a 24-6 overall record, earning the program's second-straight 20-win season. The Nittany Lions captured the PSUAC Championship three weeks ago with convincing wins over Penn State Wilkes-Barre (62-61) and Penn State York in the title game, 64-61.  

The USCAA Division II men's basketball end-of-season awards were presented at the conclusion of the association's pre-tournament festivities, which included a 3-point contest, slam dunk competition and skills competition.
