Men's Basketball Defeats Cheyney 85-61

The men's basketball team traveled to Bryant and Stratton College this weekend to participate in the Bobcat Tipoff Classic. On Saturday afternoon, the Mont Alto men's team started its 2021-22 season against Cheyney University. Mont Alto picked up its first victory of the season by defeating Cheyney 85-61. 

 

Forward Darrius Bush led Mont Alto in scoring with 18 points. Bush also added 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals to his stat line. The veteran guard tandem of Cameron Williams and Quintyn Flemister scored 15 and 14 respectively to help pace the Lions offense. Freshman Caleb Eckert played an effective 23 minutes off the bench, scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. 

 

Cheyney University was led by Cliff St. Juste, who had a team-high 21 points to go along with four rebounds. Jasisah Wright led the bench scoring and was second on the team for the evening chipping in 17 points. Nathan Pettus played the entire game, registering six points to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and four steals. 

 

Mont Alto shot 53.3% from the field and 7-for-20 from deep. They were only able to connect on 14-of-28 free throws on the day. Cheyney shot 41% from the field, including 4-of-18 from three point range.
