Mont Alto loses consolation game on last second buzzer-beater

USCAA Consolations: NHTI 68, Penn State Mont Alto 67

 

Penn State Mont Alto saw a late second half double-digit lead slip away in the consolation round at the USCAA Championships as they lost on a last second tip-in by NHTI's Kevin Newton-Delgado. Anthony Gauthier led NHTI in scoring with 18 off the bench in 20 minutes of action. Nathan Osei paced Mont Alto with 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting in 26 minutes.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Mont Alto built a quick 7-0 lead in the games first couple of minutes as the Lions scored three layups and a Cristian Rogers Jr. free throw. Nathan Osei also made a layup to end the Mont Alto run at 9-0 to start the contest.

-NHTI's Sean Riley made a layup just under the halfway point of the first half to tie the contest at 14-14.

-Mont Alto would score 15 of the games next 18 points to push the lead to 29-17 with 7:30 remaining in the first half. 

-Gauthier scored ten consecutive points for NHTI as they trailed 31-29 with five minutes of action left in the first.

-Jonathan Hernandez converted an and one on the very next possession as NHTI took its first lead of the half at 32-31. 

-Mont Alto trailed at the half 37-36 behind 11 first half points from Osei. Gauthier scored 11 in the first twenty minutes for NHTI.

-Following the break, Osei converted on a three-pointer and Rogers Jr. Made a pair of free throws as Mont Alto led 41-37.

-Jonathan Hernandez tied the game for NHTI on his three pointer, the contest was tied 43-43 with 16 minutes left.

-Dariel Rivera capped off a 8-0 run as Mont Alto led 61-49 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. 

-Kevin Newton-Delgado capped off a 15-4 NHTI run on a tip-in to defeat Mont Alto at the buzzer, 68-67.
