Men's Basketball opens season with split in Benchoff Tournament

Penn State Mont Alto 109, Bucks County C.C. 78

Mont Alto Men's Basketball opened up the season with a 109-78 non-conference victory over Bucks County C.C. Veron Talla shot 10 for 12 from the field and had a team-leading 27 points. Cameron Williams contributed in all stat areas with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Nathan Osei contributed 12 points in 21 minutes of action. 

 

Octovio Alexander was the leading scorer for Bucks County C.C. with 19 points on 5-12 shooting and five boards. 

 

Twelve Mont Alto players scored in the victory.

Apprentice 66, Penn State Mont Alto 58

Shooting woes loomed large for Mont Alto in game two of the Benchoff Tournament as they trailed 34-26 at the half and were able to cut the deficit to 60-58 with under a minute remaining. With the score 60-58, Apprentice's Donovan Means sank four free throws to push the Apprentice advantage to 64-58. Mont Alto fell to 1-1 on the season with a 66-58 loss to Apprentice.

 

Mont Alto outshot Apprentice in field goal percentage, but was 1-13 from three and 11-19 from the line in the loss. Cameron Williams led Mont Alto in scoring with 16 points and seven rebounds.

 

Veron Talla added ten points and four rebounds while Nathan Osei had seven points and ten rebounds to round out the Mont Alto leaders.

 

Up Next: Mont Alto will face Penn College at the Lycoming Tournament on Friday at 5 p.m.
