The Penn State Mont Alto Golf team traveled to Penn State New Kensington for their third match of the year on Wednesday. The team went into the match with a 1-1 record. Mont Alto and Penn College have been taking turns winning the PSUAC matches. Penn College took the win on our home course and then we took the win on their course. This match saw Penn College and Mont Alto within points of each other throughout the 18 holes. When everyone was finished and all of the scores were tallied, Penn College pulled by Mont Alto by just one point. The challenge and competition of the back and forth cycle continues between Mont Alto and Penn College on the golf course.
As far as individual standings, Mont Alto's freshman Chase King (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) tied for first place with Alex Baker from New Kensington, both shooting a 79 on the par 72 course. This is King's first time as the medalist at the collegiate level for Mont Alto.
With only two matches left before the PSUAC/USCAA Championships, Mont Alto will be preparing to bring home the win from the rest of the matches. "We lost by one stroke today. We made too many mistakes. We should be beginning to peak soon. The PSUAC/USCAA Championships are just around the corner," Head Coach Bill Burke commented.
The Mont Alto Golf team will travel to Penn State Fayette to play on Nemacolin's Mystic Rock Golf Course on October 3rd for an 11:00 a.m. tee time.
