Shearer Leads Lions with Third-Place Finish as Mont Alto Ties for 15th Place at Elizabethtown Invitational

Hershey, Pa. – Competing in the Elizabethtown Invitational the Penn State Mont Alto male golfers took part in one of the biggest tournament fields in recent memory as 28 teams descended upon the Hershey Country Club East Course on Tuesday afternoon.

Penn State Mont Alto tied for 15th place in the tournament with a 49-over par score of 333. The course will be one of the longest the team competes on with it spanning 6,600-yard and it only being a par 71.

Sophomore Tom Shearer (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) carded the top score of the afternoon for the Lions with a two-over 73, which tied for third-place as David Herbst of Lebanon Valley shooting an even par, 71.

Senior Owen Groft (Hanover, Pa. / Hanover) tied for 49th and shot an 81. Freshman Robert Sirk (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) carded an 86 and senior Dayne Conner (Shippensburg, Pa. / Big Spring) shot a season-best 93.

The golf team will return to action in a little less than a week when it travels to State College, Pa. to compete in another PSUAC Invitational at University Park on Monday, September 25.
