Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's soccer team scored its fist goal of the season, but the Lions defense were beat on the counter attack a couple of times in a 5-3 loss to Christendom College on Wednesday evening. The Lions fall to 0-4 on the season and the Crusaders improved to 3-2 overall.
Mont Alto nearly got on the board in the 3rd minute of the match, but Nate Hall's (New Bloomfield, Pa. / West Perry) shot from just ouside the box sailed wide left, but the visiting Crusaders struck first in the 18th minute on a goal by Sam Bratt. The Lions would respond immediately with a goal 32 seconds later when Skyler Miller (Shippensburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) assisted on a Nathan Woleslagle (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) effort that found the back of the net to tie it at 1-1. Wolsalagle's first colligate goal capped off the first half scoring as Christendom went into the break with a 8-6 advantage in shots.
The score remained tied until the 62nd minute when Pete Day beat Mont Alto goalkeeper Owen Gilbert (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) to left. The Crusaders made it 3-1 with a goal just over three minutes later by freshman forward James Salmon. In the 68th minute the Lions earned a free kick attempt and Skyler Miller (Shippensburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) ripped the attempt into the upper right hand corner of the net.
Christendom tallied another pair of goals including a converted penalty kick to make it 5-2, but Nathan Woleslagle (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) added to his goal tally on the evening with a converted penalty kick of his own at the 88:20 mark.
Penn State Mont Alto returns to action on Saturday, September 16 when it hosts PSU Greater Allegheny in its Antietam Humane Society (AHS) Benefit Game at 1 p.m. Details regarding the event can be found here.
