MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's soccer team dominated from start to finish and earned its first conference win of the season against Penn State Wilkes-Barre by a 4-0 score. With the victory, PSUMA improved to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 within the PSUAC.
Inside the Box Score
- Mont Alto bested the visiting Lions in every statistical category.
- PSUMA outshot Wilkes-Barre 25-15 and did so especially in the first half as they peppered the net with 19 shots.
- Wilkes-Barre goalkeeper Collin Masters finished with eight saves.
How it Happened
- Mont Alto finally was able to break the deadlock after a few good chances within the opening minutes as Carter Felker (Spring Mills, Pa./ Penns Valley) put his team on the board in the 18th minute. He finished with a thunderous volley around the PK spot that was assisted by Trenton Shetler (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area).
- Mont Alto made it 2-0 when Scott Stanko Jr. (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) found the back of the net on a nice feed from Bryce Palamar (Smithsburg, Md. / Williamsport).
- The team carried that lead into halftime as Jaylen Johnson (Philipsburg, Pa. / Philipsburg-Osceola) played the final 45 minutes at keeper and made six saves.
- Josiah Chapman (Harrisburg, Pa. / Home Schooled) stunned the opposing keeper with a shot from 40-yards out to put Mont Alto up 3-0 in the 47th minute.
- Stanko Jr. finished off his brace in the 75th minute when he placed the ball into the back of the net on an assist from Dylane McCardell (Chambersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan).
Mont Alto hits the road in its next two matches with the University of Valley Forge up next at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
