Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team opened up the 2017 season edging out PSUAC foe Penn State Fayette 2-1, but in the second half of the doubleheader Saturday the Roaring Lions rolled to a 12-1 win over the home standing Mont Alto squad.

Penn State Mont Alto drew first blood in the bottom of the fourth inning when it pushed home a pair of runs. Kaitlyn Whiteaker slashed an RBI single to right field and Cassidy Feaser helped out her own cause by driving in Brianna Glatz for the 2-0 lead.

Cassidy Feaser (1-0) tossed a gem for the Lions in game one striking out a pair while also scattering five hits across seven innings of work. Feaser worked out of several jams and allowed the lone PSU Fayette run to score in the top of the sixth inning.  Tiffany Markovitch drew a walk to begin the inning and scored two batters later when Feaser mishandled Hannah Klines sacrifice bunt attempt. Feaser recovered by striking out Heather Rugg and induced a pop fly to end the inning.

In game two, Penn State Fayette opened the scoring with a six-run second inning and the Roaring Lions didn't let off the gas pedal adding runs in the fourth and fifth innings before putting up a four spot in seventh inning enroute to the 12-2 win.

PSU Mont Alto swung the bats well combining for 10 hits as a team, but in the field it had six errors that allowed numerous scoring opportunities for their opponent. Krista Feaser, Alyssa Munns and Helayna Stanko each had multi-hit games for the Lions.

Penn State Mont Alto now sits at 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the PSUAC. The Lions remain home Sunday for another doubleheader with Penn State Fayette beginning at 11 a.m.
