Penn State Mont Alto Drop Two to Conference Rival

Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team was held to five hits in a 6-0 loss and rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader before eventually falling to PSU Greater Allegheny 15-8 in eight innings.

Penn State Greater Allegheny (4-8, 3-5 PSAUC) was paced by a dominant performance by Lacie Lautner. The freshman held the Lions to five hits and struck out 11 in the shutout. Alyssa Munns had seven strikeouts of her own in the loss. 

Game two was highly contested with Greater Allegany once again scoring first, plating home a run in the top of the second and third innings. Penn State Mont Alto (2-10, 2-10 PSUAC) would respond making 2-1 in the bottom of the third when Alyssa Munns doubled home Krista Feaser. PSU Greater Allegheny made it 3-1 in the top of fifth inning, however Mont Alto exploded for five runs in the bottom of the frame. Brianna Glatz sparked the two-out rally with a two-RBI single to center field. Kaitlyn Whiteaker, Helayna Stanko, and Geraldine Perez each hit RBI singles as part of a seven-hit inning. Mont Alto couldn't hold onto the lead as the game went into extra innings with the visitors exploding for a eight-run eighth inning to come out on top 15-8.

Both teams square off tomorrow, April 14 with PSU Mont Alto hosting a doubleheader with 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. start times.
