Softball Splits Doubleheader with Penn State DuBois on Senior Day

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team performed like two completely different squads on Saturday splitting a home doubleheader against PSU DuBois. The visitors held Mont Alto to just five hits, shutting them out 16-0, but PSUMA got revenge in the nightcap, winning 14-6.

In between games, the Mont Alto softball team celebrated Senior Day as Cassidy Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) was honored for her hard work and accomplishments over the past four years.

Penn State DuBois 16, Penn State Mont Alto 0 (F-4 innings)

  • Mont Alto was shutout for just the second time this season.
  • Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) and Abby Ebersole (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) each went 2-for-2, combining for four of the five total hits for Mont Alto.
  • Penn State DuBois got things going in the top of the first plating home four runs and didn't let up, scoring multiple runs in every inning.
  • DuBois came out swinging holding a 16-5 advantage in hits.

Penn State Mont Alto 14, Penn State DuBois 6 (F-5 innings)

  • Mont Alto took an early lead after a single from Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) that brought home Sydney Binner (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / St. Lucie West Centennial).
  • DuBois tied it in up at 1-1 in the second, but a two run homer from Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) gave PSUMA the 3-1 lead. It was her second homer of the season with each of them occurring at home.
  • The visitors once again tied it up in the fourth inning.
  • However, in the bottom half of the frame a pair of bases loaded walks and a two-RBI single up the middle from Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) gave PSUMA the lead for good at 7-3.
  • DuBois did threaten making it 6-7 in the top of the fifth, but Mont Alto exploded for a seven hit, seven run bottom of the inning to mercy its opponent 14-6.
  • Mont Alto collected 14 hits in the win with Wagner finishing with a game-high six RBIs.
  • Sydney Binner (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / St. Lucie West Centennial, Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle), Abby Ebersole (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area), Mackenzie Brymesser (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring), and Samantha Updegraff (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) each managed at least one RBI in the win.

Penn State Mont Alto (9-7, 7-7 PSUAC) return to action on Tuesday, April 17 in a road doubleheader with PSU Schuylkill. Game times are slated for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
