FCC Tame Lions to Take Two

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Playing in there second-straight day, the Penn State Mont Alto softball team hosted Frederick Community College on Tuesday afternoon and the visitors mounted a sixth inning rally in the second of a doubleheader to secure wins in both games. FCC edged Mont Alto by an 8-2 score in the first game and won a high scoring affair at 15-14 in the nightcap.

Mont Alto started the first game off on the right foot with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) scored on a passed ball and Shaina Walker (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax Area) slapped an RBI single to right field.

FCC scored eight unanswered beginning with three runs in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two insurance runs in the final inning. Both teams managed 13 hits each with Katie McCauslin (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) taking the loss in the pitching circle.  

A large contribution to the sixth inning rally in the second game was built on errors from the Nittany Lions. Overall, FCC plated eight runs within the inning to rally back and regain the lead at 12-8. Mont Alto had a huge bottom half of the inning as they scored six runs of their own with that bats coming alive. Back-to-back doubles from Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) and Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) sparked the offense as they went into the final inning with a 14-11 lead.

The Cougars took advantage of an early error to load the bases and ended up scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half of the frame PSUMA went down in order. Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs and Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) helped her cause in the circle with a 3-for-5 afternoon to go along with four RBIs. 

Up next for Mont Alto (1-5) is a PSUAC conference doubleheader with Penn State Beaver on Friday, March 22. Game times are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
