Softball Walks Off to Sweep PSUGA on Saturday

MONT ALTO, Pa. – After a commanding 12-1 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Penn State Mont Alto softball team trailed PSU Greater Allegheny 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Mont Alto churned out three straight singles and Helayna Thomas (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) gave her team the walk off 6-5 win with a double.

  • PSUMA scored two or more runs in each inning that they swung their bats. Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) and Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) each drove in a game-high four RBIs.
  • Delaney Wagner (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) sparked her team in the bottom of the first with a double and scored with smart base running on a dropped third strike.
  • Feaser and Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) each drove in a pair in the second frame.  The Nittany Lions scored two more runs within the inning as Meagan Smith (Littlestown, Pa. / Littlestown) and Delaney Wagner (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) each recorded RBIs.
  • Katie McCauslin (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) gave up the lone unearned run in the third inning as she held PSUGA to five hits, while striking out a pair. The freshman improved to 3-9 on the season with her two victories on Saturday.

  • Both teams scored a run within the first inning. Delaney Wagner (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) drove in Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) on a sacrifice fly.
  • PSUGA scored three more runs in the top of the third stanza before Mont Alto responded again this time with a pair of runs. Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) hit a RBI single and scored when Helayna Thomas (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) drove her in on a sacrifice fly out.
  • Feaser made it 5-4 scoring in the bottom of the fifth on a passed ball. Thomas played hero for Mont Alto as she slapped her game-winning double down the left field line.

The Penn State Mont Alto softball team returns to action on Sunday, April 7 when they conclude their season series with Greater Allegheny. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
