Softball loses first PSUAC contest to Penn State Beaver 9-1

Game Story

Penn State Mont Alto returned to the diamond days after splitting a doubleheader with Dickinson College on Tuesday. Friday afternoon marked the team's first Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference game of the season. The doubleheader was cut short due to weather, as the teams were only able to complete the first game. Penn State Mont Alto only mustered two hits in six innings, dropping the contest to Penn State Beaver 9-1. The squad returns home to take on Penn State Fayette in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Brooklyn Miller went 1 for 3 and MacKenzie Stake went 1 for 1, pacing the Mont Alto offense. Chloe Coleman, Skylar Duffee and Kylie Magnotta each notched two hits for Penn State Beaver in the winning effort. 

 

Haley Dawson got the ball to start game one and lasted only 2.1 innings, giving up six earned runs. Gabbey Flynt pitched a complete game for Penn State Beaver, striking out two batters in six innings. Duffee and Cassadie Speed each singled in the first to give Penn State Beaver a 2-0 lead after one inning. Kylie Magnotta and Chloe Coleman each produced run scoring doubles in the second inning, pushing the lead to 4-0 for Penn State Beaver. Penn State Beaver added two more runs in the bottom of the third before Penn State Mont Alto got on the scoreboard in the 4th inning on a Brooklyn Miller RBI single. Penn State Beaver scratched across two runs in the bottom half of the 4th and then one run in the 6th, winning the conference opener 9-1.
