Game 1: Penn State Hazleton 9, Penn State Mont Alto 2

Game Story

  • Penn State Hazleton had its big inning early, scoring six runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Athena Matenkoski and Tori Rabuck went back-to-back in the inning to push the Penn State Hazleton lead to six.

 

 

  • Sky Easterly got those two runs back in the bottom of the third inning on a 2 RBI single. Penn State Hazleton led 8-2 after three innings. 

 

  • Penn State Hazleton added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout.

Game Story

  • McKenna Sas provided an early Penn State Mont Alto lead with her third home run of the season in the top of the first. Penn State Mont Alto led 1-0.

 

  • Athena Matenkoski singled in the home half of the first, tying the score and Linsey Fisk later scored Matenkoski on a fielders choice to give Penn State Hazleton a 2-1 advantage after the first inning.

 

  • Penn State Hazleton added three more runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Tori Rabuck and Jess Lepore. 

 

  • In the top of the third, Sas connected for her second home run on the day, a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-3.

 

  • Penn State Mont Alto tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth inning, capped off by a Haley Dawson single to left center.

 

  • Chloe Sullivan scored on a passed ball in the top of the sixth, putting Penn State Mont Alto up 6-5.

 

  • Rebecca Baum recorded an RBI single to send the game to extra innings. Athena Matenkoski recorded her third hit in the game, scoring Jayla Irvin in the bottom of the eighth inning to win on a walk-off 7-6.
