2023 Penn State Mont Alto Softball Preview

Penn State Mont Alto softball will look to bounce back and get into the conversation amongst the PSUAC leaders in 2023 following a 2022 season in which they went 12-20 overall with a 6-12 mark in the conference. Coach Newell returns most of his starters, losing only Katie McCauslin to graduation last season. PSUAC Co-Player of the Year McKenna Sas is back and looking to help power this Mont Alto offense in 2023. Mont Alto added quality starting pitching depth in transfer Delaney Glazer and some other newcomers hoping to join the mix.

 

KEY RETURNERS:

C/1B #23 McKenna Sas

Sas was a key contributor for the Mont Alto offense in 2022. Despite missing numerous games due to injury, she still slugged her way to a .422 average with nine home runs and 33 runs batted in. Sas was named PSUAC co-player of the year following the season. She will look to split time behind the dish and at first base this upcoming season.

 

P/OF #20 Kirsten Dell

Dell will look to be the team's starting center fielder when the non-conference season begins on Sunday. She ranked second on the team with 107 at-bats last season. Dell was solid on offense with a .430 average which led the team. She also recorded 14 doubles and five stolen bases.

 

3B #26 Destiny Hall

Hall will make the switch to third base to start the 2023 season. She ranked first on the team last season in at-bats with 117 and hits with 49. She was also second on the team with a .419 batting average and figures to have a productive 2023 season.

 

2B #7 Emily Sicinski

Sicinski appeared in 30 games last season for Penn State Mont Alto, starting at second base and recording a .323 batting average.

 

IF #16 Skye Herring

Herring appeared in 24 games for Mont Alto during the 2022 season and batting .288 with nine runs batted in.

 

P #6 Mackenzie Stake

Stake pitched 35.1 innings in 2022 with a 2-7 record and a 12.68 earned run average. She was also fifth on the team in at-bats with 93 and compiled 17 hits and five runs batted in.
