Newell named co-coach of the year, five players named to All-Conference teams

On Thursday afternoon, the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference released its end-of-season awards for softball. Mont Alto had three players named to the first team and two to the second team.

Heath Newell was named Co-Coach of the Year following a 23-10 regular season in which his team finished second in the PSUAC standings. The 23 wins this season have been the most for Newell since he took over the program in 2017.

FIRST TEAM

Delaney Glazer was named to the first team following a 10-5 record over 85.1 innings this season. She finished the regular season second in the conference in strikeouts (127) and third in earned run average (2.95).

McKenna Sas had another outstanding offensive season for Mont Alto. She finished second in the PSUAC in home runs (5) and seventh in runs batted in (30).

Kirsten Dell was a two-position player for Mont Alto this season, splitting time between center field and pitcher. She batted .396 with 42 hits and 17 RBI's. She also pitched 64 innings, compiling a 8-3 record with a 3.26 ERA.

Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season.

Penn State Mont Alto will take on Penn State New Kensington at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game will take place at Nittany Lion Softball Park in State College, Pennsylvania. The winner will advance to Monday's championship game.
