Softball picks up two wins over CCBC Catonsville

Game One: Mont Alto 6, CCBC Catonsville 2

 

Mont Alto traveled to Catonsville, MD on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader. The team picked up two wins 6-2 and 15-10 to move to a perfect 6-0 on the week. 

 

Mont Alto started off the top of the first inning with two runs on a Kira Weikert RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Hailey Spielman. The visitors would extend the lead to 5-0 after one and a half innings on a Alyssa Wiles sac fly and a Terri Williams RBI groundout to second base. Catonsville battled back with a run in the bottom of the inning on a Riley Nace double to right center.

 

Wiles added an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning on a single to left field, plating Abigail Cunningham. Catonsville's comeback effort fell short in the sixth inning as Mont Alto took game one 6-2. MacKenzie Stake picked up her fifth win on the season, going seven innings and striking out eight batters.

Game Two: Mont Alto 15, CCBC Catonsville 10

 

Mont Alto took game two after scoring runs in five of the seven innings and combining for 15 hits. 

 

Mont Alto took an early 1-0 advantage on a Kira Weikert RBI single to left. Catonsville would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning as they plated two capped off by a A Watts double to center field. Aiyana Young and Paige Loudenslager each recorded RBI singles to push Mont Alto back ahead 3-2. Catonsville's A. Webb would tie the game back up at 3-3 after two on a sacrifice fly. 

 

Rachel Alleman recorded her second home run this week with a two run shot, scoring Hailey Spielman. Terri Williams also had a rbi double in the top of the third and Paige Loudenslager recorded a RBI groundout to push Mont Alto ahead 9-3. Sarah Devilbiss hit a two run home run for the home squad to trim the deficit to 9-5 after three complete. 

 

Weikert had the key hit in the top of the fourth for Mont Alto and Catonsville got a double from Alana Watts as they trailed 12-8 after four innings. Mont Alto added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning and Catonsville's comeback fell just short as Mont Alto took game two 15-10.
