Elimination game: Mont Alto 10, Scranton 1 F/5 innings
Softball started out their playoff tournament with a 10-1 mercy rule defeat of Penn State Scranton from Heindl Field. Mont Alto capitalized on six walks from Scranton starter Aryanna Bodge as they scored 10 runs on only six hits.
Mackenzie Stake went the distance, striking out eight batters in the winning effort. Abigail Cunningham paced Mont Alto in hits with two on the day. Mont Alto pushed ahead with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Winners Bracket: Mont Alto 8, New Kensington 5
Mont Alto advanced to the winners bracket final game on Saturday afternoon with a 8-5 defeat of Penn State New Kensington. With Mont Alto leading 2-1, Rachel Alleman smacked her seventh home run of the season to push Mont Alto's advantage to 3-1. Cammble Sterner and Alyssa Wiles each added RBI doubles in the inning to move the lead to 6-1. Mont Alto added on two more runs in the final innings to hang on 8-5.
Player of the Year Paige Loudenslager had a team leading three hits in the winning effort and went seven innings in the circle, striking out four.
Mont Alto will take on DuBois at 12:15pm Saturday from Heindl Field in DuBois, Pa.
