Women's Basketball defeats Lehigh Valley

The Mont Alto Women's Basketball had the crowd on their feet at their first home game of the season.  The ladies faced Penn State Lehigh Valley and snagged their first PSUAC win of the season.  The game went into an exciting overtime and Mont Alto came out on top with a score of 82-80.

"The ladies really showed a lot of heart against a tough and scrappy team from Lehigh Valley," Head Coach Paul Lundy comments.  "Despite not playing well for long stretches of the game we were able to pull out a win.  We allowed Lehigh Valley to do what they wanted offensively and didn't execute at our scoring end of the court for much of the game.  The team really pulled together when it counted to get the win."

It was a team effort for Mont Alto and they all played a role in the win.  Alexis Small (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) had a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 19 rebounds.  Kendra Hilbert (Dover, PA/Dover) and Ashley Madison (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) were the scoring leaders for Mont Alto with 17 points apiece.  Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) had her best offensive performance of the season so far finishing with 13 points.  "She was the spark that got us going in the first half and she helped to carry us for a while in the second half," Coach Lundy adds.  "We got solid contributions from everyone on the roster tonight."

"Getting a tough, hard fought win against a good team is a great way to kick off the conference portion of our schedule.  We are approaching each game and practice as an opportunity to grow as a team.  Sometimes that growth is coming slower than I would like but I am pleased with the general direction our program is headed," Coach Lundy comments.
