MONT ALTO, Pa. - Three players scored in double digits to help propel the Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball past the homestanding Mont Alto Nittany Lions, 85-56, on Friday. With the win, Wilkes-Barre improves to 10-6 overall and 5-5 in PSUAC play. Mont Alto is now 5-14 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Pacing Mont Alto was Charity Miller, who had 26 points shooting 2-of-7 from three-point range with 10 rebounds, seven steals and an assist. Raven Monet Kemper paced Wilkes-Barre with a team-high 22 points with a trio of three-pointers, two assists and two steals. Yasmine Montgomery recorded 18 points, four assists and three steals for the winning team.
In the first quarter Mont Alto jumped out to a 10-4 lead, at 6:05. Wilkes-Barre passed them and were leading 21- 18 at the end of the quarter. Wilkes-Barre went on to take the 41-32 into the halftime break.
Mont Alto did not come to within striking distance for the rest of the game and Wilkes-Barre wound up winning 85-56.
Mont Alto will return to action Saturday as part of a doubleheader against PSU Scranton. The women's game will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by the men at 4:00 p.m. Both of these games will be held on the Mont Alto Campus.
