ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's basketball team faced off against Mid-Christian Atlantic in a non-conference game on Monday evening. Four of PSUMA's starters finished in double figures, but the ladies ran out of steam down the stretch, losing by a score of 69-59.

The loss dropped the Nittany Lions to a 3-7 overall record, while the Mustangs improved to 3-6. Mont Alto actually shot the better percentage from the field at 36.2 percent as the team, but second chance opportunities especially down the stretch helped Mid-Christian Atlantic to the win.

Mont Alto held the Mustangs to 35.7 percent shooting clip from the floor as freshman forward Cinnamon Stanfield lead all scorers with 15 points. Kara Newell (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) who ran the Mont Alto offense on Monday finished with 13 points along with three assists.

Jazmin Walker (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) was the next best scorer finishing with 12 points.  Fellow freshman Madison Bishop (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) corralled five rebounds to go along with her 11 points. Forward Mariah Martin (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) contended with a bit of foul trouble, but still finished with 11 points in 25 minutes. Meagan Smith (Littlestown, Pa. / Littlestown) was a key contributor to the team's 47 rebounds with a game-high 10 boards.

Mont Alto will have a few weeks without a game due to winter break, but will head on the road on Tuesday, January 9, where they will kick off the new year with PSUAC battle against Penn State Dubois. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
