Penn State Fayette 52, Penn State Mont Alto 44
Autumn Fischer had a team-high 13 points for Penn State Mont Alto in 35 minutes as Penn State Mont Alto came up just short in a PSUAC game against Penn State Fayette, losing 52-44 on Saturday afternoon.
Mont Alto came out with strong defense to start the game, holding the opposition to 2 of 19 shooting. Brooklyn Merryman led Mont Alto in the opening frame with 6 points on 3 of 6 shooting. Fayette would quickly respond in the second quarter, opening the second on a 7-0 scoring run to prompt a Mont Alto timeout.
Fayette went a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe in the second quarter, not missing a single foul shot. Following two free throw makes from Taylor McCormick late in the second quarter, Fayette led 25-17 with 1:50 left in the half. Meagan Smith connected on one of two free throws to end the half as Mont Alto trailed 29-20 at the half.
Fischer would help lead the Mont Alto comeback in the third quarter with a team-high 8 points in the the third quarter. Fischer made a layup and Merryman converted a jumper to trim the lead to 35-34 with 3:47 left in the third quarter. Mont Alto trailed 43-38 following three quarters of play.
Both teams would combine for 15 points in the final frame as Fayette would hang on to win the conference matchup by a final of 52-44.
