Comeback effort falls short for women's basketball in 69-63 loss

On Monday evening, Penn State Mont Alto hosted Central Penn in USCAA a non-conference contest. The Knights took a double-digit lead midway through the second quarter and maintained that lead for the majority of the game. Two separate late-quarter pushes from the Mont Alto offense cut the deficit to five but the Knights outlasted the Lions in the end 69-63. Central Penn's Ahnae Robinson led all scorers with 23 points while the Lion's Kaleigh Hartman followed close behind with 19.  

 

How It Happened 

-Shanez Morales opened the scoring for the Lions with a pair of free throws early in the 1st quarter. 

-The game went back and forth until Central Penn's Ahnae Robinson extended the lead to five with a layup midway through the first quarter. 

-Kaleigh Hartman would fire back for Mont Alto with a 3-pointer to bring them within two.  

-The two teams battled and remained close until Sidney Green gave the Knights their biggest lead of the night at 10 points with a midrange jumper halfway through the second quarter. 

-Mont Alto would continue to trail and close the gap to 5 going into halftime down 33-28. 

-Autumn Fischer would open the scoring in the 3rd quarter with a layup to bring the Lions within three. 

-Each team would exchange a series of steals and turnovers through the 3rd quarter until Sidney Green put the Knights up 45-34, giving them their biggest lead of the evening. 

-Kaleigh Hartman and Sydney Bubb would exchange a free throw each and the Knights would go on a late run to extend their lead to 15 by the end of the 3rd quarter. 

-Mont Alto would not go down without a fight as a layup from Kaleigh Hartman brought the deficit to five with four minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. 

-A pair of jumpers from Ahnae Robinson and Allison Yoder extended the knights' lead back to nine with three minutes left in the contest. 

Ahnae Robinson helped the Knights outlast the Lions by scoring five of the team's last nine points and ultimately led her team to a 69-63 victory despite a couple of last-minute buckets from Autumn Fischer and Brooklyn Merryman of the Nittany Lions.
