Mont Alto Shares the Wealth in Big Team Win Over Fayette

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa – The women's basketball team traveled to Penn State Fayette for some conference play on Tuesday evening. Four Mont Alto players contributed double-digit points in the victory for the second straight game. Hartman and Perez each tallied a double-double for the second straight game as well. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Mont Alto's Autumn Fischer and Fayette's Reagan Rudder exchanged layups to make the score 2-2 early on. 

  • With 3:30 left in the first quarter, a layup from Dariana Perez sparked an 8-0 run that would last until there were only 21 seconds left. 

  • Fayette's Abby Bickerton laid the ball in to cut the deficit to seven with 8:28 left in the first half. 

  • A small push and a pair of free throws from Mont Alto's Shanez Morales put Mont Alto up 14 with 2:29 left in the half.  

  • Kaleigh Hartman ended a strong first half from Mont Alto with a layup to put them up 35-17 with 18 seconds remaining in the half. Fayette's Sophia Zalar would answer back quickly with a layup to end the scoring for the half.  

  • Mont Alto brought the intensity out of the locker room as they opened the 3rd quarter with a 9-0 run on buckets from Kaleigh Hartman, Dariana Perez, and Autumn Fischer 

  • The scoring drought was broken with 5:39 left in the quarter when Fayette's Sophia Zalar hit a short layup. 

  • With 4:05 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Sarah Vandersleen hit a layup to give Mont Alto a 26 point lead – their biggest of the evening.  

  • Fayette was not done playing as they came out in the 4th quarter and scored nine unanswered points to put the pressure on. 

  • Dariana Perez and Shanez Morales answered back with layups of their own with 7:02 left in the contest. 

  • Mont Alto's defense would ultimately prevail and clutch baskets from all four big scorers kept them ahead by 10 or more through the rest of the game despite a late comeback effort from Fayette.  

 

Penn State Fayette Leaders: 

Sophia Zalar – 19 points, 7 rebounds 

Daelin Burnsworth – 15 points, 5 rebounds 

Takiah Cheathon – 9 points, 5 assists 

 

 

Penn State Mont Alto Leaders: 

Dariana Perez – 22 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds 

Kaleigh Hartman – 18 points, 12 rebounds, 8 blocks 

Autumn Fischer – 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists
