Women’s Basketball Comeback Effort Comes Up Short

Penn State New Kensington 55, Penn State Mont Alto 51

 

New Kensington, Pa.- Dariana Perez led the way for Mont Alto with 24 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals, but Mont Alto couldn't complete the comeback against Penn State New Kensington 55-51. Jayde Rivera was the leading scorer for New Kensington with 19 points to go along with six assists. 

Mont Alto dominated the first quarter 21-7 as Perez scored nine points in the frame and Mont Alto shot 67% from the floor. New Kensington turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, holding Mont Alto to two points. Mont Alto trailed at the break 24-23. 

After the break, Mont Alto led 39-37 after three quarters after out scoring New Kensington 16-13. New Kensington took a 40-39 lead on a Jada Norman layup with 7:50 left in the fourth. Jayde Rivera pushed the lead to 44-42 and New Kensington held onto the lead the rest of the way for a 55-51 victory.
