Women's soccer championship run ends with 5-3 loss

The Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer team's hopes of playing for the USCAA National Championship were ended Sunday afternoon as they lost to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences by a final of 5-3.

Mont Alto held a lead at two points during Sunday's contest before Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences put together a three goal run in the second half to pull away.

Madison Eberly got the scoring started early with her unassisted goal in the game's very first minute. Albany's Julia Roemer quickly responded with a goal on an assist from Shannon Donnelly to tie the score at 1-1.

In the 18th minute, Rachel Merrill scored her third goal on the season to put Mont Alto ahead 2-1. Seven minutes later, Roemer scored her second goal of the game to tie the score at 2-2 heading into halftime.

Five minutes following halftime, Eberly scored her second goal of the match to push Mont Alto ahead 3-2 in the 51st minute on an assist from Lilianna Galloway. Roemer would score tha game's next three goals to give Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences a 5-3 advantage and send the team to Monday's National Championship game.

Despite being outshot 19-4 in shots on target, Penn State Mont Alto hung tough as Kiaya Mouer recorded 14 saves on 19 shots. Eberly led the offense of Mont Alto with a team-high two shots on goal. Avery Diehl and Rachel Merrill had the other two shots on goal. Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Science's Julia Roemer scored on five of her seven shots on goal during Sunday's contest.
