Mont Alto, Pa. – On Friday afternoon, July 14, Penn State Mont Alto Athletic Director Staci Brennan announced that Randy Hood has accepted the position of Penn State Mont Alto women's volleyball head coach. Hood comes to Mont Alto with 23 years of coaching experience at the college and high school levels, including stints as head coach at Shippensburg University and at Penn State Harrisburg.

"I am excited to welcome Randy to our athletic department as the new head volleyball coach," said Brennan. "Coach Hood brings 20-plus years of experience with him to Penn State Mont Alto, 10 of which have been at the collegiate level.  He is well known in the area and has ties to the volleyball community, which will benefit the program in their recruiting efforts."

Hood most recently spent two years as the head coach at Penn State Harrisburg where he took over a program that achieved one win prior to his arrival and saw a nine-win turnaround under his leadership. He also spent six years at Shippensburg University from 1998-2004 and led the Red Raiders to two Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference (PSAC) tournament quarterfinal appearances in 2000 and 2003.  He also has plenty of experience at the high school level, including head coaching stops at local schools in Carlisle, Big Spring and Boiling Springs.  Hood also spent a year as an assistant on the staff at Messiah College in 1993.

"I am very excited to be coaching at Mont Alto this fall," remarked Hood.  "I am looking forward to building on the success that has already been established with the program and hopefully take it to a higher level through recruiting and creating a highly competitive practice and competition atmosphere."

Hood also brings ample experience directing or instructing volleyball developmental camps including working with Mark Pavlik, head coach of the men's volleyball team at Penn State University in State College. He and his wife, Cindy will continue to reside in Carlisle, Pa. where their sons Josh and Mitchell also reside with granddaughters Emma, Olivia, Julia and Lucy.

The 2017 Penn State Mont Alto volleyball campaign gets underway on Friday, September 8 when it takes on Wilson College in the home opener at the Mont Alto Gymnasium.
