Mont Alto Volleyball Begins Season with Two-Straight Wins

Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team won its second-straight match on Tuesday when the Lions decisively beat the visiting Crusaders of Christendom College in three sets in a home non-conference USCAA match. Mont Alto came out swinging and the Crusaders were never able to build momentum with the Lions scoring set wins of 25-12, 25-21, and 25-21.

Senior Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) once again led the Lions with 18 kills, scrapped for 10 digs, and had a hitting percentage of .500. On the season, Stump leads the PSUAC with 3.88 kills per set and her 63 total digs. Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) also had a big game for the Lions with a game-high 15 digs and kept the Christendom off balance with five service aces.

Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) set her team up for success with a game-high 28 assists. Michaela Pennefather led the visiting Crusaders with 23. Meanwhile, Penn State Mont Alto senior Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) was once again a net presence for Mont Alto with seven block assets and also had a block solo in the first game of the evening.

Penn State Mont Alto has the week to prepare for the opening PSUAC conference game of the year against PSU Brandywine. Mont Alto will host its PSUAC foe on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 p.m. in the MAC Gym.
