Four Nittany Lions Named All-PSUAC; Meyers and Stump Picked to First Team and Smith Earns John Fritz Sportsmanship Award

2017 PSUAC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL AWARDS

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Four Penn State Mont Alto Nittany Lions were voted All-PSUAC Volleyball on Friday with senior Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) and sophomore Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan) earning first team recognition. Sophomore Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) was voted as the second team setter and senior Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) landed on the second team as well.

Stump, Meyers and Shaffer received their first career honor while Katie Muse appeared on the postseason awards for the second-straight season. Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) received the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded to a deserving student-athlete from each sport team within the conference that embodies the Penn State values and PSUAC philosophy. Smith was instrumental in helping to plan an organize a Salute to the Military Night where all branches of the United States Military were recognized.

Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) earned first team PSUAC recognition as Mont Alto's top hitter during the 2017 season. Stump amassed 228 kills, 3.21 kills per set that ranked her fifth in the conference. She also had 283 digs, which was the second most in the PSUAC. Teammate Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan was also recognized on the first team as she transitioned to a libero during the 2017 season splendidly. She was all over the backline with 279 digs, 18 service aces and five assists. Each of those statistical categories represented a career-high for the sophomore.

Representing Mont Alto as the second best setter in the PSUAC was Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro). Muse piled up 555 assists on the season and developed into an attacking threat towards the end of the season with 42 kills. Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) had a breakout senior campaign for Mont Alto. She contributed 142 kills, 67 service aces and a team leading 26 total blocks. She finished her career at Mont Alto with 259 kills on 676 total attacks.

Penn State Mont Alto concluded their season in the PSUAC Semifinals on October 28 when it fell to PSU Fayette in a hard fought match. The Lions were 15-6 overall and 13-4 in the PSUAC.
