Coach Hood Announces 2019 Recruiting Class

By: Frank Maira, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's volleyball program has its eyes set on avenging their PSUAC Quarterfinals loss this past fall and third year head coach, Randy Hood has further bolstered the roster by adding eight incoming freshmen. The Nittany Lions fell in a hard fought four-set match to eventual PSUAC Champions, Penn State Fayette and finished the 2018 season with a 12-13 overall record and were 4-6 within the conference.

The 2019 incoming class is comprised of Kylee Gooding, Alex Horst, Hunter Timmons, Karlee Lloyd, Maegan Kopp, Mackenzie Househoder, Aly Kyper and Paige Wood. These student-athletes have the ability to see the court right away and are expected push the current crop of returning starters.

Alex Horst

Alex Horst
Middle Hitter | 5-6
Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan High School

Major: Occupational Therapy Assistant
Coach Hood's Take: Alex comes to Mont Alto as a seasoned local athlete. She has the ability to play multiple positions, with the most recent being middle blocker. I'm sure she will be a solid addition to our Mont Alto volleyball family and I'm excited to work with her this fall.

Hunter Timmons

Hunter Timmons
Outside Hitter/Middle Hitter | 5-7
Orrstown, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian High School

Major: Animal Science
Coach Hood's Take: Hunter comes to Mont Alto as a highly recommended student-athlete by her coaches and administration as a solid individual with a very strong character. From what I've seen and heard she has a real fire for the game of volleyball. Hunter will bring a real stability to our volleyball family here at Mont Alto.

Neessen

Kylee Gooding
Outside Hitter | 5-10
Warriors Mark, Pa. / Tyrone Area High School

Major: Nursing
Coach Hood's Take: Kylee is capable of playing all three hitting positions. My plan right now is to have her play outside hitter, while playing all six rotations. She is a very gifted volleyball player with a great work ethic. We feel she will have a strong impact on our team this year.

Karlee Lloyd
Defensive Specialist | 5-1
Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro High School

Major: Nursing
Coach Hood's Take: Karlee is one of the better defensive players that I have seen play the game. She has quick reactions and reads the hitter very well. I believe that she has the potential to make our back row extremely strong. We are very happy to have her join our volleyball family.

Maegan Kopp
Outside Hitter/Libero | 5-6
Rio Rancho, N.M. / Boiling Springs High School

Major: Business
Coach Hood's Take: Maegan is a strong all-around player who played Libero during her senior year while also playing outside hitter for her club season. With a great attitude she is willing to play anywhere to help her team win. She will help our squad out this fall and for the next few years as we're looking forward to working with her.

Aly Kyper
Setter/Defensive Specialist | 5-4
Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area High School

Paige Wood
Defensive Specialist | 5-5
Mount Holly Springs, Pa. / Carlisle High School

Mackenzie Householder
Setter/Defensive Specialist | 5-6
Williamsport, Md. / Cumberland Valley Christian High School

Coach Hood's Take on The Trio: I believe that all three players have solid potential and can really round out this incoming freshmen class. Combined with the returners who improved greatly throughout last season and through the spring we fully feel that Mont Alto will be a force within the PSUAC and at the national level within the USCAA.
