2023 Women's Volleyball Preview
For this year's 2023 Penn State Mont Alto Women's Volleyball Team, the expectations are high once again. Mont Alto has a lot of returning production from experienced players and also adds a talented incoming first year class. Last year's squad won the first PSUAC conference title in 20 years and also won the first team USCAA title in Mont Alto athletic history. Coach Randy Hood's squad enters this season with high hopes of repeating last years accomplishments.
Returners:
S #8 Kylie Denlinger
Kylie Denlinger had an impressive offensive season in 2022 with 894 assists, averaging 9.31 assists per set while distributing the ball to a variety of her hitters for a diverse offensive attack. She also added 72 service aces, averaging out to .75 aces per set. She locked down the defensive side of the ball as well with 392 digs and 29 total blocks. Denlinger earned a well-deserved spot as the PSUAC West Specialist of the Year, as well as PSUAC West 1st Team All-Conference. She also received honors as a First Team USCAA All-American and Academic All-American.
MH #17 Gracie Vaughn
Vaughn had a very efficient offensive season last year with 253 kills on a .319 hitting percentage. She also added 107 total blocks. Vaughn was named a Second Team USCAA All-American and was the USCAA Championship Game Most Valuable Player.
OH #2 Leslie Huckle
Huckle was third on the team last year in total kills with 225. She hit .168 on the year along with averaging 2.30 k/s and 25 total blocks. She was a big part of the offense scoring 242.5 points which was third on the team. Huckle was also named a USCAA Academic All-American last year.
MH #11 Caroline Blickley
Blickley, who is entering her third year, was fourth on the team in kills last season with a total of 138. She did this with a hitting average of .175 on 742 total attacks. She also logged 57 blocks, of which 27 were solo.
LIB #1 Brooke Denlinger
Denlinger led the team last year in digs with 505 and an average of over 5 per set. Her presence was certainly felt on the defensive side of the ball, leading the team again in total receptions with 392. She also added 33 service aces, leaving her mark as a big impact on the serving aspect of the game.
DS #12 Gabby Baughman
Baughman as a defensive specialist was fourth on the team in digs with 219. She also logged 186 receptions on the year establishing herself as one of the main defensive returners this season. With a fantastic total of 70 service aces on the year, she was one of most aggressive servers on the team.
DS #6 Zoey McCormack
McCormack as a freshman was responsible for 32 total points last year for Penn State Mont Alto. She also added a respectable 54 digs and 32 service aces while providing a spark off the bench.
LIB #3 Cadance Somau
Newman as a first year had a large impact on the service line registering 27 service aces which was sixth on the team. She also had 140 digs which was fifth on the team and 127 total receptions on the year.
