Volleyball wins fourth straight

Penn State Mont Alto 3, Mount Aloysius 1 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21)

 

Penn State Mont Alto picks up its fourth straight win on Tuesday evening, defeating Mount Aloysius in four sets. With the win, Mont Alto looks to carry the momentum into a battle for first place amongst the PSUAC West Division on Thursday evening at home. 

 

The first set was tied at 10-10 until Mont Alto took seven of the next nine points, capped off by two kills from Leslie Huckle. With the score 23-19 late, Mont Alto took two of the last three points on their way to winning the first set 25-20. 

 

Mont Alto pushed out to a 12-8 advantage in the second set, but Mount Aloysius battled back to tie the set by taking the next four points. Mont Alto would take seven of eight points with the score 17-15 to go ahead 24-16 behind the serves of Katie Sinks and Gabby Baughman. An Elizabeth Trella kill from Kylie Denlinger put Mont Alto up 2-0.

 

The Mounties weren't done yet, hitting .464 as a team during the third set as Mont Alto faltered with 10 kills on 35 attempts for a .057 pct. With Mont Alto up 22-21 in the third set, the Mounties took the remaining four points with Molly Richards leading the way with two kills.

 

The Nittany Lions would find themselves down 19-13 in set four before four consecutive points forced a Mount Aloysius timeout. A kill from Gracie Vaughn and Elizabeth Trella followed by a service ace from Brooke Denlinger pushed Mont Alto on top 21-19. Mont Alto would continue the momentum, taking the fourth set 25-21 and winning four straight contests.
