Coach Hood reaches 100 wins, Mont Alto defeats GA in five

Penn State Mont Alto 3, Penn State Greater Allegheny 2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-13)

 

Penn State Mont Alto completed another five set thriller win on Friday evening, defeating Penn State Greater Allegheny to stay atop the PSUAC West Division. With the win, Mont Alto Head Coach Randy Hood picked up his 100th career victory.

 

Mont Alto won two of the first three sets and failed to seal the deal in the fourth, losing set four 25-22.

 

With the score tied 13-13 in the fifth, Mont Alto picked up the leading point and a Greater Allegheny attack sailed out of bounds for the Mont Alto winner.

 

Gracie Vaughn (19), Elizabeth Trella (17) and Leslie Huckle (14) paced the offense and led Mont Alto in kills. Kylie Denlinger led Mont Alto with 53 of the team's 57 assists. 

 

Brooke Denlinger and Gabby Baughman led the backline with 22 and 19 digs respectively,

 

Gracie Vaughn paced the defensive effort, defending the attack with a team leading 13 blocks.

 

Mont Alto will now face their toughest conference test of the season with a matchup against Penn State York headlining a huge tri-match on Sunday. Mont Alto will face off against Penn State York at noon and Harford Community College at 4 p.m. Mont Alto defeated Penn State York for both the conference and USCAA championship a season ago. Both teams are currently tied for first place in the USCAA rankings.
