Baseball splits with Brandywine

 

Penn State Mont Alto Baseball team needs to win all remaining conference games to clinch a PSUAC playoff spot.  They traveled to Penn State Brandywine for a double-header Monday April 21st.

 

In the first inning Brandywine scored five runs.  Mont Alto did not put any runs on the board.

It all turned around in the second inning for Mont Alto when they scored four runs. The score after the second was 6-4, Brandywine leading the way.

The top of the fifth inning, three players scored for Mont Alto giving them the lead, 7-6 over Brandywine.

Mont Alto's defense was solid not allowing Brandywine to score any runs since the second inning.

Cody Casey (Carlisle, PA) went 3-4 at bat, recorded one RBI and one run. Aaron Maze (Mount Joy, PA) went 2-3, also had one run and one RBI. Brady Griest (Biglerville, PA) was 2-4, with one RBI and one run.

Freshman Dylan Bryan (Waynesboro, PA) was on the mound for Mont Alto.  Bryan pitched all seven innings, allowed eight hits, six runs, four of which were earned, walked six and struck out 10.

Mont Alto went on to win the first game, 7-6 over Brandywine.

 

 

The second game of the double-header was a battle, both teams going back and forth.

 

Mont Alto started the second game scoring one run in the first inning.  Brandywine answered back with only one run.  In the second inning Brandywine added three runs to the board.  The score was 4-1, Brandywine leading the way.

In the top of the fourth Mont Alto scored twice.  Maze singled to bring Jeremy Pagano (York, PA) in for a one run. The next run came from a single hit by Holden Baker (Greencastle, PA) that brought Casey home. The score going into the bottom of the fourth was 3-4 Brandywine still ahead.

The bottom of the fourth, Brandywine added another two runs.

The fifth and sixth inning was a momentum changer as Mont Alto scored six runs total in both innings. Brandywine had quick innings as they were forced to three and out.

Mont Alto had taken the lead going into the final inning with the score being 9-6. In the bottom of the seventh, Mont Alto gave up five hits that caused Brandywine to score six runs to end the game.

 

Josiah Furry (Chambersburg, PA) pitched 6.1 innings, allowed 14 hits, 12 runs, walked five, struck out three and gave up two home runs.

 

The final score was 12-9, Brandywine finishing the game on top and splitting the double-header.
