Michaels Produces a Quality Start with Mont Alto Cruising Past PSU Beaver

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Sophomore Luke Michaels (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) put together a quality start on Tuesday to lead his team to a 19-6 victory over Penn State Beaver on Tuesday afternoon. The right hander tossed 5.0 innings of scoreless ball with a season-high four strike outs.

The Nittany Lions built a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first frame including a double to right center field off the bat of Hayden Kissel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) that drove in two runs. Back-to-back triples from Brady Bigler (Saint Thomas, Pa. / James Buchanan) and Michael Scott (Accokeek, Md. / Bishop McNamara) saw Mont Alto lead 7-0 before the scoring within the inning was finished with an RBI single from Joseph Wunsch (Dover, Del. / Dover Area).

Michael Scott (Accokeek, Md. / Bishop McNamara) pulled another triple to right field in the bottom of the third inning as the scoring continued for Mont Alto. They piled on four runs in the fourth frame and led 17-0.

Penn State Beaver finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Anthony Vargas doubled. Clutch singles from Aaron Stremmel (Biglerville, Pa. / Homeschool) and Jacob Heflin (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg Area) that drove in a run each made it 19-1. The visitors scored five runs before Collin Beach (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) slammed the door shut for Mont Alto.

With the win, Mont Alto improved to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the PSUAC West. The program returns to action on Saturday with a road doubleheader against Penn State DuBois.
