USCAA’s No. 2 Ranked Mont Alto Baseball Splits Doubleheader with DuBois

DuBois, Pa. – The No. 2 ranked team according to the USCAA coaches poll, the Penn State Mont Alto baseball team split a doubleheader with PSU DuBois on Saturday. Mont Alto dropped the first game by a 5-0 score but rallied for a 2-1 victory to improve to 11-2 overall and 9-2 within the PSUAC West.

Penn State DuBois 5, Penn State Mont Alto 0 (F)

  • The bulk of Penn State DuBois's scoring occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning with the home team pushing across four runs within the inning including a 2-RBI double from Daniel Stauffer, which put his team up 4-0.
  • Matt Huston (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) threw a complete game effort in the loss as he scattered nine hits across six innings of work.
  • Chance McClure (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) went 2-for-3 at the plate including a double in the top of the fourth inning.

Penn State Mont Alto 2, Penn State DuBois 1 (F)

  • Zach Garlin (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) earned his third-straight win on the pitching mound striking out six opponents along the way as he allowed just three hits. He improved to 3-0 and his ERA through five starts is 3.33.
  • After singles from Tyler Moreland (Spring Mills, W.Va. / Spring Mills) and Collin Beech (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick), Alberto Fabian (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / KCAPA) came to the dish and crushed an RBI single to put Mont Alto up 2-0.
  • PSU DuBois scored a run in the bottom of the frame, but Garlin was dominant as Mont Alto improved to 11-2 overall and 9-2 within the PSUAC West.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, April 9 in a road doubleheader slated against Penn State New Kensington.
