During the Small College World Series home run derby, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its end of season awards. Penn State Mont Alto's Jared Pine was named Player of the Year and a first team All-American. Pitcher Zach Garlin joined Pine as a first team All-American. Second baseman Hayden Kissel was named an honorable mention.
Penn State Mont Alto recently won its first Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference title since 2017 when it defeated Penn State DuBois in back-to-back championship contests. The team won its first USCAA Small College World Series contest on Monday, defeating 6-seed D'Youville 3-1. They will take on 2-seed Cincinnati Clermont in the winner's bracket semifinal game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

FIRST TEAM
Jared Pine had a standout season for Penn State Mont Alto. As the leadoff hitter, he led the team in hits (51), batting average (.402), triples (6) and stolen bases (23). In the field, he has helped turn 15 double plays and has only six errors in 148 total chances. Pine has accumulated 15 multi-hit games this season in 35 games played. He is on base nearly half the time with a .477 OBP. Pine also earned USCAA All-American honors following the 2021 season.
Zach Garlin has been the leading starting pitcher for Penn State Mont Alto all season. He has a current 6-3 record with 87 strikeouts in 62.2 innings pitched. His strikeout total is first in the USCAA by nine over the second place pitcher. His win total is tied for third currently in the nation. Garlin has two 10+ strikeout games this season (Bucks County C.C. and Penn State Beaver). On Monday afternoon, he pitched 6.2 innings and struck out nine D'Youville hitters in the opening rounds of the Small College World Series. Garlin also earned USCAA All-American honors following the 2021 season.
HONORABLE MENTION
Hayden Kissel has been a catalyst for the Penn State Mont Alto offense. On the season, Kissel batted .307 with one home run and 24 runs batted in. Kissel helped Penn State Mont Alto with his bat and glove during the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference playoffs last weekend. During the six games, Kissel led the team in hits (8) on his way to batting .320. He was named PSUAC Hitter of the Week for the championship round for his strong performance. Kissel has only committed two errors in 120 chances this season for a .983 fielding percentage. Kissel was also earned USCAA All-American honors following the 2021 season.
ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS
Dylan Reisinger and Kaden Robinson were both named to the USCAA Academic All-American team for their strong performance in the classroom. Both student-athletes qualified for the team by earning at least 3.50 cumulative GPA with 24 completed academic credits.
