Women’s Basketball Secures Win Over Christendom In a Defensive Battle

FRONT ROYAL, Va. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's basketball team secured its first win of the 2017-18 season in a highly contested defensive battle with Christendom College. Mont Alto squeaked past the Crusaders, 48-43 with Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) leading the way with a career-high 17 points and 15 rebounds. It was the most boards that Shaffer corralled since the February 15, 2015 loss to PSU Brandywine during her sophomore season where she collected 13.

Mont Alto held a 40-34 rebounding advantage with Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) also collecting a game-high 10 offensive rebounds. She shot 8-of-18 from the field and also had a block and steal.

The Nittany Lions received another strong outing from senior guard Karley Coleman (Hanover, Pa. /Delone Catholic) who had 13 points, four assists and three rebounds. Coleman shot 7-of-11 from the free throw line as teammate Charity Miller (Greencatle, Pa. / James Buchanan) added 8 points.

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action on Wednesday, November in a non-conference road matchup with crosstown rival Wilson College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
