Third quarter runs helps Mont Alto defeat New Kensington 68-53

MONT ALTO, Pa.- Kaleigh Hartman scored a team-high 25 points as Mont Alto had strong second and third quarters on their way to defeating Penn State New Kensington 68-53 in PSUAC action Thursday. Dariana Perez also had 20 points and 12 assists in the winning effort.

 

New Kensington built an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter as Mont Alto went 0-8 from the field until Kaleigh Hartman took the lid off the basket to get Mont Alto on the board with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter. Down 11-6, Mont Alto went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 11-11 after one quarter.

 

Esther Cole made a layup as New Kensington led 17-13 and Mont Alto scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 17-17 with 6:59 left in the half. Dariana Perez made two free throws at the end of the first half as Mont Alto went into the locker room with a 31-25 advantage.

 

Hartman and Perez came out of the half and each made a three pointer to push the Mont Alto lead to 37-25. The lead would balloon to 15 points near the end of the quarter as Mont Alto led 51-37 after three quarters.

 

Two successful free throws by Autumn Fischer and a basket by Hartman ballooned the lead to 61-40. New Kensington couldn't get within 13 the remainder of the quarter as Mont Alto defeated New Kensington by a final of 68-53.
