WASHINGTON, DC – The Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer team picked up a non-conference victory over Trinity Washington University on Thursday evening. The Lions shutout Trinity Washington with a 3-0 road win to improve to 2-4 overall.
Inside the Box Score
- Kiara Pensinger (McConnellsburg, Pa. / Central Fulton) recorded her first collegiate goal in the 30th minute that put Mont Alto up for good.
- Kara Newell (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) also scored as she netted her third goal of the season.
- Angel Schoonover (Woodhull, N.Y. / Jasper-Troupsburg) made three saves and earned her second shutout of the season.
- Mont Alto held a 13-12 advantage in shots with Mont Alto placing six shots on target. Kara Newell (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) led the team with three shots on goal.
How it Happened
- The teams appeared to be headed into halftime without a score but midway through the 30th minute, Pensinger found the back of the net on a beautiful assist from Maddie Shirley (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville).
- In the 61st minute Kara Newell (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) ripped a shot from 30-yards out that put the match out of reach.
Mont Alto travels to Penn State Beaver on Tuesday, October 9. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
