Lochner's hat trick propels Mont Alto to third straight PSUAC title

PSUAC Championship: Penn State Mont Alto 5, Penn State Brandywine 1

Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer picked up its third consecutive PSUAC title on Tuesday evening at Panzer Stadium behind a dominate 5-1 performance against Brandywine. With the win, Mont Alto improved to 14-3-1 overall and clinched a spot in the upcoming USCAA National Tournament by winning the conference championship.

It wouldn't take long for Mont Alto to get on the board, as Lochner connected for her first tally of the contest in the games 4th minute. Madison Eberly took a throw in near the Mont Alto bench and passed to a running Lochner heading towards the goal. The pass went over the head of a Brandywine defender as she slipped, leaving Lochner with just the keeper to beat. She sent her shot over the keeper and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Action remained scoreless for nearly 30 minutes until Mont Alto added another tally. Eberly took a Brandywine miscue off of her free kick and passed to Avery Diehl a couple yards out. Diehl fed Lochner to the right of the goal as she took two dribbles and was able to score once again. Mont Alto led 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

Five minutes later, Sydney Allison fed a free kick to the right of the goal past the Brandywine back line and Alexis Mariano was awaiting the pass and snuck the ball through across the goal mouth for a 3-0 Mont Alto lead.

With thirty seconds left in the half, Mariano made a great defensive play to regain possession and Lochner found the loose ball and was able to dribble in and finish off her hat trick in the 44th minute of action. Mont Alto took a 4-0 lead into the half.

The second half remained scoreless until Penn State Brandywine's Zoey Lineman defeated Kiaya Mouer on a penalty kick in the 85th minute. Luckily, Mont Alto was able to erase that goal with a Avery Diehl goal two minutes later off a corner kick assist from Madison Eberly in the 87th minute.

Mont Alto was able to capitalize on their scoring chances as they only outshot Brandywine 7-6 in shots on goal in the contest.

Penn State Mont Alto will find out their USCAA Schedule during the 4pm bid show later today.
